The president of the National Centre for Legal Aid and Human Rights, a non-governmental and non-profit organization based in Castries, St. Lucia, stated in a 22 February 2001 telephone interview that she was not aware of the Attorney General of St. Lucia instructing prosecutors not to pursue criminal cases involving crimes against homosexuals. She added that she would be "quite surprised" if the Attorney General were interfering in the work of prosecutors (ibid.). The president was aware of "unprofessional comments" made by the Attorney General to the media, but that was the extent of her knowledge of any "controversies" involving his office (ibid.).
