BISHKEK – A Kyrgyz political group led by foreign-educated activists has announced the formation of the Kyrgyz Liberal Democratic Party (KLDP), RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

KLDP Secretary-General Manas Samatov told RFE/RL that his party's major goal is to replace Kyrgyzstan's old politicians with young politicians who have liberal viewpoints and experience of living in free, democratic societies.

The KLDP became the 157th political party officially registered in Kyrgyzstan.

KLPD Chairman Seitek Kachkynbaev, who is studying for a doctorate in Japan, told RFE/RL the new party is not just made up of young people but that it is a "the new political force of a new generation."

He added that his party plans to introduce its political platform and goals to the people in Kyrgyzstan in the near future.

Kachkynbaev, 31, added that his party will concentrate on five issues: statehood, national identity, liberal economics, democratic development, and balanced foreign relations.

The leader of the centrist Ak-Shumkar (White Falcon) party, Temir Sariev, told RFE/RL that a foreign university diploma is not enough to hold power. "One should also be experienced in order to be capable of running a country," he said.
