A representative of the Committee of the Relatives of the Disappeared of Honduras (COFADEH, a human rights organization based in Honduras) stated during a 22 July 1998 telephone interview that the organization has no record of an abduction or attempted abduction of an employee of the Bestform plant in Choloma in February 1997. The representative consulted on the subject with other non-government organizations, none of which had a record of such an incident. However, the representative cautioned that this does not mean that a Bestform employee was not abducted or the victim of an attempted abduction, as some cases are not reported publicly or to human rights organizations; she added that it is not unusual for victims of traumatic events to confuse the dates of a traumatic incident. Finally, the representative said that the recorded information found by COFADEH on the March 1997 dismissals of employees attempting to form a union at the Bestform plant does not include information on individual events affecting the unionists before their dismissal.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
