According to an official at the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary in Ottawa, Hungarian citizens of compulsory military age must carry a photo-identification booklet or card containing information pertaining to the bearer's military status, record and rank (16 Oct. 2001).

The official stated that he was unaware of any specific penalties for taking such documents out of the country (ibid.).
