There is an abundance of literature on the control of the Roman Catholic (as well as Buddhist and others) church and the ill-treatment of its members in Vietnam. We have attached some of the more pertinent excerpts. The IRBDC can find only one very vague reference to candidates for priesthood in currently available sources: "The authorities continued to severely restrict applications for admission to the clergy of all religions" (Human Rights Watch 1991, 336).
