Please find attached a copy of Response to Information Request ARG7899 of 11 February 1991 and its attachment, as well as a copy of Argentine legislation related to nationality provided by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in May 1992. Additional information can be found in Response to Information Request ARG3532 of 3 January 1990, which discusses obtention and loss of Argentine nationality.

According to the Consulate of Argentina in Montreal, Law 346 (attached to ARG7899) currently regulates acquisition and loss of nationality (15 Jan. 1993). Other pieces of legislation, unless otherwise indicated or amended, are a complement to this law. As indicated in the attached legislation, acquisition of Argentine nationality by children born outside Argentina of an Argentine parent is not necessarily automatic. Depending on the particular aspects of a case (for example, whether the Argentine parent was abroad in the service of the nation), a person may or may not have to fulfil certain requirements (Ibid.). Questions on how specific cases would be dealt with may be answered in the attached legislation or forwarded to the Consulate of Argentina.

An official translation of the attached documents could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB.
