Programme outcome
The Turkmenistan National Society programmes are aligned with the strategic aims of the Strategy 2020 to save lives, protect livelihoods, and strengthen recovery from disasters and crises; enable healthy and safe living; and promote social inclusion and culture of non-violence and peace. The capacity-building efforts are in line with enabling action one to build strong National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Programmes summary
The disaster management (DM) programme continued building its institutional capacity to meet the National Society’s disaster management obligations and its community-based initiatives in the most vulnerable communities, including mitigation and public awareness. The staff and volunteers improved their knowledge and skills through training and simulation exercises. The National Society also improved its national disaster preparedness/disaster response and contingency plans, build up technical resources of the headquarters and branches and replenished emergency stocks. In order to facilitate improving the national legal base in case of the international disaster response the National Society promoted the Disaster Law (DL) in front of the government. The Turkmenistan Red Crescent provided humanitarian aid to people affected by natural and man-made disasters with resources from the National Society emergency stocks.
