Regional Summary Week 09 and Outlook for Week 10
1)Most disasters recorded in Week 09 were still hydro-meteorological in nature, with floods, landslides and strong wind recorded in Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand.
2)There were 53 (fifty-three) earthquakes of M 5.0 and above in nearby borderline between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Recorded earthquakes were varied in terms of depth and earthquake intensity felt in Indonesian area, and no major damages and impacts reported yet.
3)In Philippines, preparedness and response activities are still ongoing for Mayon Volcano Eruption.
4)In Indonesia, alert level for Sinabung Volcano, North Sumatra maintained at Alert Level IV (Warning/Awas, out of four alert levels) (PVMBG).
5)With transition from rainy season, some scattered hotspots were detected over most parts of the northern ASEAN region with slight to moderate smote haze observed mainly over Lao PDR and Viet Nam (ASMC, 4 Mar 2018).
6)ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) increased status to Alert Level 2, indicating more than 150 hotspots detected in 2 consecutive days with dense smote plumes; dry weather persisting; and prevailing winds blowing towards ASEAN Member States.
7)All disasters occurred in Week 09 were within the capacity of respective ASEAN Member States.
