Resettlement to New Zealand for People Transferred Offshore by Australia

On 24 March 2022, New Zealand and Australia announced an arrangement under which New Zealand will resettle eligible refugees transferred offshore by Australia. Through this arrangement, New Zealand agreed to resettle up to 150 refugees each year for the next three years (July 2022 to July 2025). This arrangement applies to eligible refugees who are now in Nauru or Australia.

UNHCR has agreed separately with New Zealand to refer eligible refugees from Papua New Guinea, as they are not included in the resettlement arrangement. UNHCR and New Zealand will follow the same resettlement process for those in Papua New Guinea.
