Yasir is a 32-year-old father and an avid football player who was born in Mosul, Iraq. Yasir had his life turned upside down in just one day. After losing both legs in an explosion in Iraq in 2016, he fled to Türkiye with his family in search of security and peace. In his new life, sports present an opportunity to feel included and empowered.

Shirin is an active participant in activities organized by the UNHCR and one of its partners, ASAM. She joins information counselling sessions, workshops, and trainings in Hatay, Türkiye, where she lives with her family after having fled Syria five years ago.

Meeting a refugee is a different experience. It can be a shaking reality check for some and for others an inspiration to do more in life. “This semester at university has gone by so fast and I am learning a lot from  this dynamic environment” says Linas, a 22-year-old Syrian DAFI scholarship student who currently studies architecture at a university in Ankara.
