In 2022, Haiti continued to face significant challenges. The slow recovery from the devastating earthquake of August 2021 immediately followed by tropical storm Grace, flooding, and a cholera outbreak in October 2022, combined with the longstanding political, economic and security related crises. With internal displacement and gang violence on the rise -- as armed gangs have taken over large parts of the capital, isolating entire neighborhoods and cutting off connections between the capital and the rest of the country, the lack of access to basic services and social protection, large scale unemployment and underemployment, and high inflation rates, humanitarian needs in Haiti continue increasing in a much more complex response environment.

In response, UNICEF has supported the Government in the provision of basic services for over 646,000 people, including water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); education, health, nutrition, child protection and social protection services. Together with local and international NGOs, UNICEF also continues supporting disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and interventions to address violence against children as well as gender-based violence (GBV), and protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).
