INDONESIA
As of 27 November, 321 people have been confirmed killed by the 6.5 magnitude earthquake that struck Cianjur District and surrounding areas of West Java Province on 21 November, with 595 people seriously injured and more than 10,000 people slightly injured. The Government has registered 73,874 displaced people (including 92 people with disability, 1,207 pregnant women, and 4,240 elderly people) and more than 62,000 houses were reported damaged at various level of severity. The earthquake also damaged 342 schools and other educational facilities.
Government and non-government organizations continue providing food and non-food assistance to affected people, including emergency shelter support. The District Government of Cianjuris is now managing the response Command Post to coordiante response activities. A total of 22 medical services have been established, including four referral hospitals and 18 health centers. The Government has identified shelter assistance needs for heavily, moderate and slightly damaged houses, and has designated two hectares of land as a relocation area for people who cannot return to their properties.
National members of the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) are providing relief assistance, while other HCT members are supporting the response through technical assistance, coordination, and information management. At the request of the Government, UNFPA is distributing reproductive health emergency supplies and dignity kits for specific groups in earthquake-affected communities. The UN continues to monitor the situation and is liaising closely with Government counterparts and other humanitarian stake-holders.
PHILIPPINES
A three-day outbreak of armed conflict began on 8 November between troops of the Philippine Army and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Ungkaya Pukan municipality, Basilan, BARMM in Mindanao. An estimated 11,000 people (2,262 families) were displaced in six barangays (villages) in Ungkaya Pukan, according to the Municipal Social Welfare Department Office (MSWDO). The Bangsamoro regional government and the local authorities of Basilan have provided assistance to displaced people. CARE Philippines and its partners conducted a rapid needs assessment which found evidence of humanitarian needs, particularly for shelter repair, NFIs, food, livelihoods recovery, education, and protection support. Some displaced people have reportedly returned to their homes, with an unaccounted number of people remaining displaced from their homes.
