An Immigration Information Officer with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) indicated that an immigrant or individual with temporary protected status must apply to their local immigration office, with their immigration documents and work authorization form, in order to receive a social security card (7 Feb. 1992).

There is no further information currently available to the IRBDC on this topic.
