Officials of the Interior Ministry of the Russian North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia say the house of the republic's Security Council secretary has been shelled by unknown attackers.

Reports said four mortar rounds were fired overnight at Akhmed Kotiev's house in the village of Malgobek.

No casualties or major damages were reported.

Ingushetia and other areas of Russia's volatile North Caucasus region are plagued by frequent clashes between security forces and militants and attacks by Islamist insurgents targeting local officials and police.

Based on reporting by Interfax and ITAR-TASS
