Attached please find a number of articles which describe the ethnic tension between ethnic Hungarians and Serbs and/or Croats in the past two years.
According to Helsinki Watch, Serbian paramilitary forces in Vojvodina have expelled non-Serbs including Hungarians (July 1993, 5). However, Serbian human rights activists, political parties in Vojvodina, members of opposition parties and the independent press have "undertaken steps to protect non-Serbs from persecution and displacement in Vojvodina" (ibid., 6) at the risk of "harassment, physical assaults and, possibly, death" (ibid.).
The Government of Serbia, according to Helsinki Watch, "has done little, if anything, to arrest paramilitaries terrorizing non-Serbs in Vojvodina and has not taken steps to prevent further displacements" (ibid.).
The DIRB has no further information on this subject at the present time.
