Information on a joint investigation of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the government of Panama concerning money laundering between Panama and Canada in 1994 or 1995 could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB.

The public affairs office of the RCMP in Ottawa stated that the RCMP have not produced a public report on money laundering between Panama and Canada for the years in question, and that information related to criminal investigations such as one described in your information request is not readily available to the general public (11 July 1997).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
