An 18 December 1997 AFP article states:

Tirgu-Mures, Romania: Some politicians uphold mixed Romania-Hungarian marriages as models of ethnic harmony in this country with its share of inter-ethnic violence, but pressure from their respective communities often poison these couples' lives, making survival difficult.
