Militants attacked an army camp in Indian-administered Kashmir on December 5, killing 11 Indian troops and police.

Officials say six of the attackers also were killed in a gun battle with security forces near the heavily militarized Line of Control that divides the disputed territory of Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

An army officer said the attackers hurled grenades as well as firing assault rifles as they tried to storm the position of an artillery unit.

India and Pakistan have fought two of their three wars against each other since 1947 over their rival claims to the territory.
