According to information provided by representatives of the AAPO Support Groups in Dallas, Texas during an 8 September 1998 telephone interview and in San Diego, California during a 2 September 1998 telephone interview, the network of support groups mainly consists of individual Amharans who volunteer their time and work from their homes in support of or in solidarity with the AAPO. The support groups have different names in the various cities of Canada and the United States, although all include a reference to the Amhara. Both representatives confirmed that there is a representative of the network in the city of Winnipeg.
The AAPO Support Groups network representative in Calgary, referred to by the previous two representatives, stated during an 8 October 1998 telephone interview that the representative of the Ethiopian Amhara Support Organization in Winnipeg was until recently a man, although the current representative there is a woman.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
