The information below was provided by an officer at Citizenship and Immigration Canada in Ottawa (6 June 1994).

Proof of employment is requested from visa applicants in the form of a letter from the employer. On a case-by-case basis, depending on whether the the visa officer has any doubts, the Canadian embassy may contact the employer for verification. The existence or location of the place of employment may be verified by contacting the organization, or, for example, by looking for its listing and address in the local telephone book.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
