According to a spokesperson for the Embassy of Burundi in Washington DC, a person born in Burundi of Rwandan nationals is not automatically considered to be a national of Burundi; however, Burundi nationality can be acquired through naturalization (17 Aug. 1993). The procedure for acquisition of Burundi nationality through naturalization is described in articles 9 to 12 of the attached Code de la nationalité Burundaise. The embassy spokesperson stated that the government of Burundi does not allow dual nationality (17 Aug. 1993).
