Information on this subject is scarce. According to a representative of Middle East Watch, engaging in sexual relations before marriage is considered a matter of honour and is often perceived as a crime in Bedouin society (15 Oct. 1993). The representative was unable to provide further information as to whether the state authorities were granting protection to people involved in these matters or any information on the social implications of such cases (Ibid.).
