According to a representative of the Movimiento Bolivia Libre (MBL), members of the MBL have not been victims of political assassination or disappearance since 1982 (8 Apr. 1993). Although killings of political activists by security forces have occurred in the last five years, these have taken place mostly in the coca-growing areas of the country or have involved members of armed rebel groups (Ibid.). According to the source, the last political assassination of MBL or Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR) militants occurred on 15 January 1981, before the MBL separated from the MIR (Ibid.). The MBL split from the MIR and became a separate political force in 1985 (Ibid.).

Amnesty International annual reports, U.S. Department of State Country Reports and their corresponding critiques (all available at your Regional Documentation Centre) do not mention cases of political assassination and disappearance involving members of the MBL.

Additional and/or corroborating information could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB.
