In a 28 March 2003 telephone interview, a counsellor for passports and visas at the Embassy of Germany in Ottawa stated that all persons regardless of country of origin or ethnicity who are granted a resident permit visa may be asked to leave Germany if they are outside Germany for a period of more than six months or if they are convicted of a criminal offence.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
