According to a representative of the Consular Section of the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Washington D.C., the acquisition of Sierra Leonean nationality is dependent on the father's nationality, not on where the person is born (17 Jan. 1992). A child born in Sierra Leone could not claim Sierra Leonean nationality if the father is not a national of Sierra Leone (Ibid.). The government of Sierra Leone allows foreigners born in Sierra Leone to remain in the country provided that they have a permanent residence permit which must be renewed annually (Ibid.).

Please see attached previous response to Information Request SLE7487 and its attachments which makes specific reference to the acquisition of Sierra Leonean nationality and to regulations regarding residence for foreigners born in Sierra Leone. Additional information is currently unavailable to the IRBDC in Ottawa.
