On 1 June 2000 an official at the Consular Section of the Embassy of the United States of America in Ottawa stated that the procedure to apply for a US visitor's visa is similar all over the world: the applicant must demonstrate that he or she has strong ties to his or her country of residence, and financial security. The applicant must pay a fee of US$45, submit his or her passport and a photograph, and undergo an interview with the US Consul, Vice-Consul or Consul-General.

In addition, please see the attached documents, which are posted on the Internet Website of the Embassy of the United States of America in Lima, Peru.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
