Information on the Kenya ex-Freedom Fighters and Families Welfare Association and its treatment by the authorities could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

However, a 15 August 1996 International Press Service (IPS) report states that some ex-freedom fighters (Mau Mau) were claiming land confiscated by the British colonial administration during the 1952-1956 rebellion.

For further information on land issues in Kenya, particularly in the Rift valley, and the political violence surrounding those issues, please refer to the Human Rights Watch publications entitled Failing the Internally Displaced (June 1997), Multipartyism Betrayed in Kenya (July 1994) and Divide and Rule: State Sponsored Ethnic Violence in Kenya (November 1993) which are available at Regional Resources Centres.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
