Voices of Refugees

“It is rare for refugees to travel from a refugee camp to work with professional UNHCR staff. It has been a great honor and a wonderful opportunity.” Meet Gentille Dusenge, a refugee intern at the UNHCR Rwanda.

This magazine is written and published by youth from Kigeme refugee camp – a camp hosting nearly 21,000 Congolese refugees.

The photographs taken by the participants in Gihembe, Kigeme, Kiziba and Nyabiheke have offered UNHCR the opportunity to learn more about the daily lives and the opinions of the refugee teenagers, and to discuss gender perceptions among the adolescents in the camps.

“I have returned to Rwanda to spend my life where I belong. I returned with the hopes of rebuilding my livelihood in the country that I have always called home,” – Marie Uwimana, a former Rwandan refugee.

Depuis le mois de juin 2015, les réfugiés burundais du camp de Mahama au Rwanda cultivent des potagers. Avec la récolte, ils en profitent pour compléter l’alimentation et pour limiter les dépenses en les achetant au marché à des prix chers.
