In Ituri Province, the security and protection situation continues to deteriorate due to the intensification of activities of armed groups. On February 1, 2022, an attack on the Plaine Savo Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) site in the Djugu Territory, led to an increase in incidents and protection risks for the civilian population.
The Protection Cluster in the Democratic Republic of Congo recently published its Protection Analysis Update focusing on the protection situation in the territories of Djugu, Mahagi and Irumu particularly affected by the current crises. The report outlines prevalent protection risks and provides a set of recommendations for immediate action, on six priority risks:
- Gender-based violence
- Forced displacement
- Conflict-induced food insecurity
- Attacks on IDPs sites
- Forced recruitment
- Attacks schools and health centres and restricted access to basic services
The Protection Cluster and the CCCM Cluster also published a joint advocacy note calling for the full respect of the civil character of collective sites hosting internally displaced persons: Advocacy Note on Attacks against IDP sites
