GPC GLOBAL PROTECTION FORUM 2020
This year, the Global Protection Forum brought together 3000 experts from 30+ operations to discuss real time protection challenges, share experiences and provide strategic direction for protection actors and the Global Protection Cluster.
The Forum harmonized approaches and brought forward a number of priorities that require global advocacy and attention, collective action and advocacy such as the need for (i) protection risks and needs of affected populations to systematically guide humanitarian collective action, (ii) stronger participation and empowerment of local actors and communities, (iii) more robust partnerships with actors and stakeholders beyond the protection and humanitarian community, (iv) more intentional targeting of marginalised and often overlooked populations such as people leaving with disabilities, older people, and persons victims of trafficking. Technical working sessions with Coordinator and Co-coordinators in the field were instrumental in defining concrete steps to ensure basics or protection response and coordination are place in all operations, in line the GPC operational footprint.
Together with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Global Protection Cluster, and with support from PHAP, the Norwegian Refugee Council brought together a High-Level Panel that reflected on the state of protection in the COVID-19 era. The event drew on findings from a new NRC-Global Protection Cluster report on the current state of play in protection financing, and brought to a close the Global Protection Forum, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mJcb2OznvM&feature=emb_imp_woyt
