Osvaldo Laport
“I believe we have to work to increase the spirit of collaboration in people, so that it crosses borders and helps relieve the weight of the pain that refugees have to carry.”
About Osvaldo
Osvaldo Laport was appointed as the first regional UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador for Latin America in 2006.
The charismatic Uruguayan actor moved to Argentina to study acting in 1976, and from a stage career in Buenos Aires he moved on to international acclaim after lead roles in soap operas on the small screen. Laport has used his following and influence to vigorously champion the cause of refugees and helped raise awareness of UNHCR’s work in the Spanish-speaking world, including through multiple video projects and also for major global campaigns such as #WithRefugees.
He has met refugees and internally displaced people in Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Lebanon.
