About Amina

Amina Abdi Rabar has been a High-Level Influencer for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency's, LuQuLuQu campaign since August 2017.

Amina is a Kenyan award winning Radio and TV presenter, who has travelled with UNHCR to Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya to learn more about our refugee youth and education work. The trip included a visit to a primary school where Amina saw firsthand the need for education in the camp. She also visited the market at Kakuma, where she met refugee traders. Finally she met with Youth Voices Kakuma, a group of young refugees interested in pursuing careers in radio and TV, and learned about their efforts to highlight challenges faced by refugee youth in the camp.

“Refugees just want opportunities. They want to help their families, and they want to be somebody.”

Amina has been involved in several UNHCR events, including a role as MC for the Step for Safety walk, which aimed to encourage public solidarity with families forced to flee their homes.
