A representative of the Embassy of Qatar in Washington indicated that children born in Qatar of foreign workers would have their father's nationality (23 June 1993). Qatar does not automatically grants Qatari nationality to people born in the country (Ibid.).
According to a representative of Middle East Watch in New York, it is very unlikely that children born in Qatar of foreign workers would be granted Qatari nationality (25 June 1993). Children of foreign workers are allowed to exit and return to Qatar under the status provided by their parents' visa (Ibid.). The representative added that when a male child reaches the age of 21 years, he must secure a separate visa in order to be allowed exit and return to the country, while a female child would be submitted to the same procedure, but after she married (Ibid.). The representative reported that Iranian workers in Qatar are rarely naturalized (Ibid.).
Additional and/or corroborating information on this subject is currently unavailable to the DIRB in Ottawa.
