Podkoscielna proved she is one of the world’s best road tandem riders by wining gold at her first Paralympics in Rio.
Together with pilot Alexsandra Teclaw, Podkoscielna won the road race B by nearly one minute from her rivals.
Her victory surprised few bearing mind her 2015 form saw her top the world rankings.
The highlight of a busy 2015 for the Polish rider was double gold at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland. She claimed rainbow jerseys in the time trial and road race events, adding to her three World Cup wins from earlier in the year.
Podkoscielna andher pilot have been riding together since 2010 and first enjoyed success in 2013 when they won the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships road race.
On the track, Podkoscielna secured top six finishes in all three events she took part in at the 2015 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in the Netherlands.
