STANDING OVATION
During the final of the T12 1500m at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, she received a standing ovation from the entire Olympic Stadium after she and her guide fell during the race. "I was well positioned, [but] I pushed my guide and he tripped and fell. I kept running alone, knowing that I would be unable to reach the finish line unassisted. But then, my guide turned up on my right side and said, 'You are too close to the edge of the track, watch out or you will fall'. It took me nearly five seconds to get up [after she fell], but it seemed like much longer. Later, my guide joked, 'We had only two ways to receive an 80,000-person standing ovation. Either we had to win, or I had to throw you to the ground'." (40mulheres.redejovensigualdade.org.pt, 23 Dec 2017)
