He began swimming at age 10 in Spentrup, Denmark.
Why this sport?
"I took up swimming because it did not require any aids in relation to my impairment, and at the same time I could train my whole body [by swimming]."

HIATUS
He took a three-month break from swimming in 2018 before returning to the pool in January 2019. "I had hardly been on vacation or break since 2012, so I was stuck. I needed to get away.
