He took up the sport in 1994, and began competing in wheelchair races in 2002.
Why this sport?
He initially played wheelchair basketball, but switched to Para athletics after watching a wheelchair marathon. His ambition was to compete at the Paralympic Games. "I was fascinated by the sport."

Injuries
