After competing at the 1984 Paralympic Games in Stoke-Mandeville, England, he took time off from elite sport. The large amount of time required to train for elite sports, coupled with the dedication required for medical studies - and later specialist surgery training - were the reasons for the break. He returned to elite competition in 2005 with biathlon and cross country skiing. (France2.fr, 03 Mar 2010)
