Liu is a three-time Paralympian who enjoyed her most successful Games in 2016 in Rio, winning two gold medals and a silver.

She opened her campaign in Rio by winning the 100m T54 (16.00), retaining the title she had first won at London 2012. She also took gold as part of the Chinese 4x400m relay T53-54 team that smashed the world record with a time of 3:32.11.

Over 800m she broke the Asian record in both the semi-finals and final, but her time of 1:45.02 in the final was only good enough to win silver behind the USA’s Tatyana McFadden.

At her first Paralympics in 2008 in Beijing she won 100m T54 (16.20) silver and 4x100m relay T53-54 (57.61) gold.

Four years later in London, her only medal was gold in the 100m.

The T54 racer has also competed in four World Championships; the first was in 2006 and she has won seven medals, including four world titles.

At the 2014 Asian Para Games in Incheon, South Korea, she won gold in the 100m, 400m and 800m T54 events, as well as silver in the 1,500m T54.

Liu took up Para athletics in 2005 and made her international debut a year later. She lost her right leg after being involved in a car accident at age two.

In 2008 she received the Labour Medal and during her career she has received the May 4th Youth Medal.
