Emrah Ocal was Turkey’s best player at Rio 2016 as the European team achieved fifth, their best-position ever position in blind football at a Paralympic Games.
Turkey’s success story dates back to 2015 when Ocal was in sensational form as they won the IBSA European Championships. After a goalless draw against Germany in their opening game, Turkey smashed six past Poland with Ocal bagging four goals.
He followed this up in the very next game with a hat-trick against Italy, as Turkey ran out with the 3-0 win.
Despite a loss to hosts England in their final group game, Turkey progressed to the knockout stages beating Spain 2-0 on penalties in the semi-finals. A goal in the final by teammate Kahraman Kurbetoglu secured Turkey a historic 1-0 win over Russia and a European title.
