PARA SNOWBOARD FAST FACTS

1.    The sport made its debut at the Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, in 2014.
2.    A total of 12 Paralympic gold medals have been awarded in the sport, with USA claiming the most with six.
3.    So far five countries have won Para snowboard gold at the Winter Paralympics.
4.    Ten countries have won at least one Para snowboard medal at the Winter Paralympics.
5.    Athletes compete in two different events – snowboard-cross and banked slalom -  and in three categories based on their functional ability: SB-LL1, SB-LL2 and SB-UL.
6.    Mike Schultz is currently the most decorated male Paralympic snowboarder after taking double gold in PyeongChang, South Korea, in 2018 and gold at the sport's debut in Sochi.
7.    Bibian Mentel-Spee won two golds at the 2018 Winter Paralympics after undergoing two major surgeries and cancer treatment in the lead-up. 
8.    The USA's Brenna Huckaby is the other female snowboarder to have won at least two Winter Paralympic golds.
9.    The first Para Snowboard World Championships took place in Copper Mountain, USA, in 2015. 
10.  The world’s best snowboarders also take part in the World Cup series, which features a number of events across the Americas, Asia and Europe throughout the season.
