Impairment
He was born with severely underdeveloped arms as a result of Thalidomide, a drug responsible for many birth defects during the 1960s. He cannot carry ski poles, and operates his rifle with the aid of a special device that incorporates a string with a ring end which he uses with his mouth to fire. (abendblatt.de, 15 Mar 2010)

CLIMB FOR CHARITY
In 2004 he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. For every 100 metres he ascended he was supported with a predetermined amount by sponsors. The climb was to support a German child protection agency and to promote skiing for people with impairments. (dosb.de, 19 Oct 2010)
