Japan has claimed 80 medals at the Paralympic Winter Games: Gold 20 - Silver 28 - Bronze 32.

The Nagano 1998 Paralympic Winter Games were Japan's most successful Paralympic Winter Games to date, winning 12 gold medals, 16 silver and 13 bronze.

The NPC made its debut at the Ornskoldsvik 1976 Paralympic Winter Games.

Japan hosted the Paralympic Winter Games in 1998 when the event was held in Nagano.

The NPC has been most successful in Ice sledge racing, claiming nine gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze medals.

Japan won 35 total medals in alpine skiing (G7-S11-B17).

Yutaka Takeda, Miki Matsue and Akira Kano have won three gold medals. Takeda and Matsue both in ice sledge speed racing in 1998, and Kano in alpine skiing in 2010 and 2014.

Kuniko Obinata claimed 10 medals at the Paralympic Winter Games (G2-S3-B5), all in alpine skiing.

Obinata won multiple medals at each of the Paralympic Winter Games from 1998 to 2010.
