He took up Para athletics in 2001 at the TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen club in Germany.

Injuries
In 2017 he suffered a bone fracture in his right foot and tore a tendon in his right shoulder while taking part in the German TV show 'Dancing with the Stars'. The injuries prevented him from competing at the 2017 World Championships in London, England. (rtl.de, 29 May 2017; paralympic.org, 16 Jul 2018)

In October 2015 he fractured a bone in his right foot while at a training camp in Lanzarote, Spain. The injury prevented him from competing at the 2015 World Championships in Doha, Qatar. Impairment
Doctors discovered a tumour on his left calf at age eight. In order to avoid the possibility of bone cancer in the future, his left leg was amputated below the knee. (sport.t-online.de, 10 Jan 2011)

RETIREMENT
He retired from competitive sport after the 2018 European Championships in Berlin, Germany.
