Before her injury she participated in able-bodied athletics at international level. She competed in rowing at the Paralympic Games in 2008, 2012 and 2016, and in biathlon [2006] and cross-country skiing [2006, 2010, 2014, 2018] at the Paralympic Winter Games. She has also competed in Para canoe sprint at the 2019 European Championships in Poznan, Poland, and has been national champion in pairs wheelchair dancing in Belarus. In 2001 she fell from the roof of her university residence and sustained spinal injuries. She was following the news of the September 11 attacks in the United States of America, but her television was receiving a bad signal reception. She climbed on to the roof to adjust the position of the antenna as she had done a number of times before, but on this occasion she slipped and fell.
