Oleksii Denysiuk has continued to live up to the hype by adding a World Championships medal to his Paralympic podium.

At the 2018 Worlds in Cheongju, South Korea; Denysiuk took home bronze in the P3 (mixed 25m pistol SH1). The Paralympic bronze medallist just missed out on a medal in the P4 (mixed 50m pistol SH1).

Four months after Cheongju 2018, Denysiuk won both the P4 and P3 events, and more are on the target list for 2019.

In 2015, the Ukrainian made the finals at every World Cup he entered and medalled in all but one.

He ended the year in the top three in P4, P3 and P1 (men’s 10m air pistol SH1).

One of his career highlights came at the World Cup in Osijek, Croatia, in July 2015.

Denysiuk stormed to gold with a new world record in P1 in only his fourth major international competition.

His build-up to his first Paralympics at Rio 2016 could not have been better and he arrived in Brazil as one of the medal favourites.

He did not disappoint, claiming bronze in P4. He finished behind Iran's Sareh Javanmardi who is one of his key rivals in the coming seasons.

His ability to finish on the podium on the biggest stage possible also shows his potential to claim other pistol medals.

Sport specific information

When and where did you begin this sport?
He took up the sport at age 12 in Vinnytsia, Ukraine.
Why this sport?
"Almost on the same day when the fall happened to me, I had just decided to quit shooting. I already had a number of awards at regional and national level and had managed some good results. But I had already decided for myself that I would earn a living differently somehow. Since childhood, I had dreamed of a sports career and, as soon as I firmly decided to abandon my dream, life harshly pushed me towards it again. It was like fate and I also understood that, with a disability, I could hardly fully engage in anything else besides shooting."
