The IPC actively seeks to develop partnerships with organisations that have common interests and help the IPC achieve its strategic objectives.
Through partnerships, the IPC aims to increase athlete participation, launch development and education programmes and increase awareness for the Paralympic Movement.
The IPC has established partnerships with influential international organisations such as the United Nations and other non-governmental organisations around the globe.
IPC-IOC PARTNERSHIP
This productive relationship with the International Olympic Committee occurs on many levels and has increased the quality of the Paralympic Games to an exceptional standard.
The first IPC-IOC agreement was signed during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games by Presidents Samaranch and Steadward, at which point the IOC was seeking a positive association showing social responsibility.
In 2001, the two signed an agreement securing the practice of “one bid, one city,” meaning the same city will host both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In 2018, the partnership agreement was renewed through to 2032, and was signed by IOC President Thomas Bach and IPC President Andrew Parsons at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.
The IPC President is an IOC member and the IPC is represented on several IOC Commissions.
