In August 2017 heavy monsoon rains caused intense flooding across more than one-third of Bangladesh, affecting more than 8 million people with major loss of crops, livestock, infrastructure and water sources. The floods also left left nearly 400,000 people displaced, living in temporary shelters, on embankments, or in the open. The Shelter Cluster has been coordinating with shelter partners to provide emergency shelter, recovery and housing support to 320,000 people, with a focus on districts where the most homes have been destroyed.
