South (Tyre)

UNHCR’s Field Office in Tyre (FO Tyre) was established in April 2013 to provide immediate and direct protection and assistance in response to the mass influx of Syrian refugees into Lebanon, and particularly South Lebanon.

FO Tyre is responsible for UNHCR’s operations in South Lebanon, which administratively covers the South Governorate (including Tyre, Jezzine and Saida Districts) and Nabatieh Governorate (including Bent Jbeil, Hasbaya, Marjaayoun and Nabatieh Districts).

As of 31 August 2020, 96,761 Syrian refugees are registered with UNHCR in South Lebanon, and an additional 1,308 refugees and asylum-seekers originating from Iraq, Sudan, Ethiopia and other countries.

FO Tyre works with thirty operational partners, and has project agreements with seven partners to implement protection and assistance activities for refugee families in the areas of Basic Assistance, Education, Protection, Public Health, Shelter and WASH.
