Norwegian Contributions to UNHCR

Norway is one of UNHCR’s most important strategic partners and a generous donor. In 2019, Norway was our 4th biggest donor and the biggest donor to UNHCR per capita. In 2019, 47% of Norway’s contribution came as unearmarked funding.

Key facts about Norway as a donor:

  • Norway is a supporter of education for displaced children and refugees.
  • In 2019, Norway provided USD 94 million to UNHCR, of which 47% was unearmarked, allowing UNHCR to support where the needs were the greatest. Norway was the biggest donor per capita.
  • Norway provided key contributions to the Syria situation response, Jordan, Lebanon and the Central Mediterranean situation.
  • At the Global Refugee Forum, Norway pledged USD 850,000 to UNHCR’s resettlement efforts.
  • Norway also supports the Nansen Refugee Award and contributes annually with a monetary prize to the Nansen Refugee Award winner.
